We started off with focus on the ancient form of storytelling – Kooththu – and worked around it. We interviewed Kooththu artists, captured their glorious on-stage and contrasting off-stage images, conducted interviews, and organized a Kooththu Festival at the heart of Chennai city.
Now, we are taking one-step forward – bring everything to you. We wondered whether any of us have any memorabilia or symbols of our roots around us and we have created artefacts that you can wear, own and use to decorate your home/work space.

We identify ourselves from the stories, customs, and the legacy of our culture that are inseparable and the cornerstone of our aspirations, politics and landscape. We started looking for the lens – storytelling and symbols – that lets us delve deeply into who we are.
I, Surender, captured the scintillating moments of Kooththu performance in a remote location in TamilNadu. We wanted to present a glimpse of this simple yet sophisticated and visceral art-form to the world.
Our first effort to take it to the outside world fetched us an Honorable Mention award in the International Photography Award competition.

Kireedam is the crown that adorns the characters in a Kooththu performance and distinguishes the special performers from the common folk. Kireedam holds an important and distinct place in the history of Tamil artform.
